The emergence and development of national movement in British india impacted the minds of cultural intelligentsia of jammu and kashmir region also. The vernacular literature, flok traditions and perfoming arts become an effective weapon of communication and connectivity with the common masses which led to cultural Awakening and regeneration of the society. 

The popular culture of the region began to be used as a viable medium to disseminate the idea of nationalism anti imperialism and universal brotherhood. 

The writing of eminent writers of the time like Gulam Ahmad mahjoor 1885 to 1948 , the river the waterfall and the star and dina nadim santh and grab with a touch of flok songs were full of the idea  of nationalism and freedom of humanity. Their poetry in Vernacular kashmir language advocated for religious syncretism harmony, brotherhood and peace in society. 

Additionally in 1920 the collection and publication of evocative and emotive vikash verses of lalleshwari 1325 1422 a century mystic poetess of Kashmir valley popularly known as lal ded. Known as lalla Vakhyani the wise saying of lal ded. Was done by the British indologists like G. A Grierson and lionel  barnets. Her vaakhs represented the idea of kashmiriyat as a cultural repertoire of the generation of kashmir. Her verses with a universal appeal illustrated the union of streams of shavite philosophy and sufi sm. Which blurred the religion boundaries , depicting the ethos of tolerance. Likewise the shrukhs of her spiritual discipline of shiekh Noor ud din in kashmir language. Created a vehicle to promote devotional religion among the common masses, beside the publication of first Kashmiri dictionary by Grierson in 1924 also enhanced the importance of kashmiri as their mother Tongue  ...
